CONSECRATION ADDRESS
Peter Chung, Faculty | Introduced by Ian McCloskey
Peter Kwangil Chung was born in Los Angeles, California and was raised in Portland, Oregon from the age of four. In 1998, he graduated with a BS degree in History and Government from Pacific Union College. He also attended one year of law school at Pepperdine University in 2000. After realizing that law school was not his life calling, he began his teaching career and in 2004, earned a Master of Arts in Teaching in Curriculum and Instruction from La Sierra University. Steve Becker, former social studies teacher at SGA, was Peter's master teacher while he was student teaching. In 2005, he earned a Master of Art degree in History from California State University at Fullerton.
Mr. Chung taught at the Burbank Unified School District for two years. He worked as a Bible worker and lay evangelist for seven years, traveling to many places throughout the nation and assisting his pastor and evangelist friends with their seminars and meetings. He also served as the English Ministry Lay Pastor at the Cerritos Korean SDA Church for two years. After years on the road doing full-time ministry and conducting a Week of Prayer at an Adventist academy in South Korea, Mr. Chung felt a growing desire to teach. In 2015, God opened the door for him to return to the classroom as he began work as the History/Social Studies teacher at San Gabriel Academy, the school from where many of his relatives and close friends graduated.
When he is not in the classroom or in his school office, Peter enjoys studying the Bible and discovering how history connects with prophecy, preaching as a guest speaker at various churches, and learning videography and landscape photography. He also enjoys keeping in touch with his students after they graduate, cheering them on as they pursue their careers. Most of all, he desires his students to make Jesus first, best, and last in all that they do and to be citizens of Heaven.
